There are many pubs in Kilcar where there is entertainment such as traditional Irish music all summer long. John Joes Bar is popular as it has been a winner of the Traditional Irish Music Pub of the Year Award. Other lively pubs are The Pipers Rest, Kilcar House and O'Gara's

Hill walking

There is many hill walking treks that are very popular with visitors

Festivals & Music

Kilcar has its own festival each year the first week-end in August. The festival is enjoyed by both locals and visitors as there are children events on the streets during the day and then there is Traditional Irish music and bands in the evenings both indoor and outdoor.

We have an annual Fleadh Cheoil (Music Festival) held in Kilcar in the month of August. Musicians from all over the Country and indeed from other Countries come here to join in the music sessions which are held in the local pubs and halls. This provides great entertainment for all the family including music, song and dance.

Sport & Football

Our local GAA Club here in Kilcar is involved very much with the young people, local and visitors alike. They hold many Gaelic football tournaments throughout the summer months and they also hold a Summer Camp. All local children and those who are visiting the area can participate in all games. It is a great way for all the children to mix with one other and also to learn the skills of the great game of GAA football.

Community Center

Aislann Cill Chartha is the community and sports hall where there is a gym, cinema, internet access and a sports hall where you can play football, volleyball etc.

Archaeology

Kilcar has many old buildings, graveyards and tombs. More information on local history can be got in Aislann Cill Chartha. There is also the holy well just beside our house called St Kieran's well. This is where we got the name for our house.


There are also many attractions in the neighbouring Donegal towns of Killybegs, Glencolmkille and Bruckless.

Killybegs Fishing Port, Co. Donegal, Ireland

Killybegs Attractions

The fishing village is only 5km from our house. It is Irelands biggest fishing port and you can go there to watch the fishing boats unload their catch of fish at the pier. Some of the biggest and most modern fishing trawlers in Europe port here.

Fishing & Sea Cruises

Anyone who enjoys fishing this is the area for you to visit. St. Kieran's B&B is located beside the large fishing port of Killybegs where there are lots of fishing Trawlers to see at the pier. There are also many rivers nearby where people can fish. There has been a new pier built in Killybegs in recent years and this enables large Cruise Ships to dock at the pier for day trips. These Cruise ships have docked there last Summer and this Summer also.

Glencolmkille Attractions

The Folk Village Museum in Glencolkille is a beautiful half hour drive from St Kieran's B&B. The museum offers visitors the chance to relive life as experienced by the people of the southwest in the 18th, 19th and 20th century Ireland and to see the various utensils , lamps and furniture that were used by then during the different periods. Glencolmkille is also famous for its tweed and knitwear products

You can also enjoy a game of golf here as it is quite popular with visitors.

Bruckless Attractions

This quaint little village which is only 8km from our house is popular with visitors because it has an Equestrian Center & Open Farm. They hold pony & horse riding competitions on a regular basis.
